Jin-Kook Lee is an associate professor of dept. of Interior Architecture and Built Environment, Yonsei University, and a researcher/developer in the field of Design Computing, the intersection between design and computation where the challenging issues arise while we design and build our surroundings. His recent focus is on the analysis of design and rule-checking for the built environment in computational manner specifically using Building Information Modeling (BIM), not just simply on conventional computer-aided design per se. He eventually pursues ¡®way better environment¡¯ as his long-term goal in academia, to take advantage of his interdisciplinary studies in architecture, computer science, digital design media, and housing & interior design. To achieve his goal, diverse kinds of BIM applications in particular are his research & development directions that have been explored since his studies at Georgia Tech.

He has been involved in several Design Computing and BIM-related pragmatic research and software development projects with renowned people and organizations such as Georgia Tech Digital Building Lab, US GSA, Autodesk, Korea Ministry of Land Infrastructure and Transport etc. Thanks to such opportunities he has published around 80 research papers with his exceptional colleagues and students. His PhD thesis was awarded ¡®Best Dissertation Award¡¯ at the School of Architecture, Georgia Tech, and he received ¡®BIM Award Citation at 2008 AIA TAP BIM Award¡¯ from the AIA as well as CETI Award¡¯ from FIATECH Industry Consortium.
